New Orleans Saints are this year’s Super Bowl Champions, upsetting heavy favourites, the Indianapolis Colts, 31-17 in Miami.
Saints’ Quarterback Drew Brees was hailed MVP throwing for 288 yards, 2 touchdowns and no interceptions, who was in his first ever Super Bowl appearance.
Colts were ahead during the end of the first quarter, 10-0. The Saints had to claw their way back, entering into half-time 10-6 down, as they outmuscle the Colts, by 143 yards to 15.
Brees gave the Saints the lead when he threw his first of two touchdown passes, a 16-yard screen pass to running back Pierre Thomas, while Garrett Hartley kicked the extra point to give them the lead 13-10.
Colts tail-back Joseph Addai, restored their lead to 17-13, running the ball from Peyton Manning from four yards out.
Coming into the final quarter, the Saints were down, 17-16, when Colts’ Matt Stover failed to find the target from 51 yards, allowing New Orleans to pounce back with another of Brees’ 2-yard touchdown passes to Jeremy Shockey and a controversial two-point conversion attempt gave the Saints a 24-17 advantage.
New Orleans’ cornerback Tracy Porter’s 74-yard interception return, put the Saints in a very comfortable position, leading 31-17 with just over 3 minutes of play.
This huge Super Bowl win made the New Orleans Saints the first team to come from a three-game losing streak on the final stages of regular season and make it to the Play-offs and eventually winning the title.
