PS3 Firmware Updates To Come. Maybe this month of June will be having a new set of changes for PlayStation 3 on their latest firmware update, if Issue 45 of Official PlayStation Magazine is to be believed.
As per the passage photographed here, an update (presumably Firmware 3.40) will arrive next month to prepare our precious PS3s for 3D gaming. 3D Blu-Ray playback functionality will follow sometime afterwards, says Sony.
Naturally, this news calls into question whether the new firmware might also introduce the redesigned XMB everyone’s been talking about following Cheap Ass Gamer’s ‘Techtonic Farts’ podcast, during which presenter ‘Cheapy D’ announced:
“I’ve heard that the Sony PS3 is getting a completely redesigned Xross Media Bar. Like totally new, not just like new columns and stuff – like totally redone.”
Sounds, like, totally cool.
Word is that Sony’s E3 press conference will shed some informative light on the subject. In the meantime, we shall drop our contacts at SCEE a quick email to see if they’ll offer us some credible intelligence.
