Mike Griffith, CEO of Activision Publishing, said that “the Call of Duty: World at War map packs have sold more than 8.5 million units in a single year. World at War remains one of the top three titles played over Xbox LIVE even more than one year since its original launch.”
The game is still a huge source of income for the company, having earned a hundred million dollars from multiplayer maps downloads alone.
In the first week of release of the first map pack, sales reached a staggering one million downloads. Two additional map packs, released in June and August of that same year, also set record first-week sales on Xbox LIVE and PlayStation Network.
